DAC Is Back

DAC is back:

Awesome. For those of you who missed it, DAC was hacked on the 19th of April via a known vulnerability in the Coppermine Gallery which we used. The update to fix the vulnerability was released on the 12th of April with a further update on the 16th. Given there’s no way in hell I’ll ever be able to update the gallery that fast, I’ve taken it offline until I find an alternative.

You might also note a bunch of missing stuff as well. For starters, that “level” forum crap is gone and it won’t be coming back. Also gone is Teatime’s website… Which I’ll have to fix.

I’m not sure what else is missing but if it’s not there and it’s meant to be, let me know and I’ll dig it out of the compromised backup, check that it’s okay and upload it again.

I also recommend that if you’re security conscious, you change your password. There is the possibility that hackers gained access to the database which contains all your encrypted passwords. If they decrypt them (which is difficult but not impossible), they’d like, be able to log in as you and post stuff. It’s more of an issue if you use that password somewhere else though, like your gmail account or something or if you’re an administrator.

DAC: Please Stand By

Fansite DuckAndCover has been hacked, it will be out for at least a week:

Sorry folks, Duck and Cover has (once again) been seriously compromised by my inability to keep the Coppermine Gallery up to date.
As such, DAC will be offline for the next week while I completely delete and re-install EVERYTHING.
There is also a chance that your forum password has been stolen by internet thievery. If you use that password anywhere else, I recommend you change it immediately.

Fallout 3: The New Pictures At PcGames.de

Now that I’ve talked about the new info and pics about Fallout 3, it’s time to see the said pictures by yourselves. PC Games.de has a gallery with almost all the new pictures.

A warm thanks to King of Creation from DuckAndCover for finding this.

10 Atomic Years: DuckAndCover

Happy Birthday DuckandCover:

It’s been a long long time since Duck and Cover was created by some random guy called Jay who everyone still existing on the site probably never knew. It’s been ten years in fact, to the day. It’s been a rocky ride, from the GSA debacle to that whole fist.jpg shenanigan and beyond.

Regardless, ten years is a long time for a website, let alone a website to still get updated and having a community, perhaps proof that when the bombs eventually drop cockroaches won’t be the only thing able to survive a bit of fallout (oh the wit).

Through that time the Fallout community as a whole has managed to survive the brutalization of the beloved game that once, and for some still does, had people glued to their computers, playing a quality of video game that tends to rarely be achieved these days. Again, a testament to the quality of the actual game, and how it’s built a lasting community around it.

Thanks to everyone who has ever had a hand in the running and maintaining the Duck and Cover site, and the current crew of staffers that continue to make sure when we come here we don’t get mail order porn. Despite how much zig probably still plans on doing it some day… Also, no site like this would’ve been around if it wasn’t for the community underneath it.

I remember when DAC was an ugly message boars with ads that took over half of the screen, then the Gamespy years, the Kreegle and Killian years, you name it. So all the best to them, and remember to duck and cover.

DAC Needs News

americangoatse.jpg

A message from DuckAndCover:

Happy 2008 DAC! Just a few housecleaning issues to start the new year:

Newsposting has been a bit slow recently (sorry about that), but I’m hoping that with the new year, we’ll be providing much more news. On that note, I’m putting out the call to you for newsposters.

All interested persons should PM me to apply.

On another note, it appears my email here hasn’t worked for like, oh, the last 6 months. So if you need to contact me, PM would be best, or email me at kingofcreation.DAC@gmail.com

If I’ve missed anything important that you think I should mention, post it in the thread.

Here’s to hoping that 2008 brings a fantastic Fallout 3.

More info here.

Stop the Press-Fallout 3 community questions

utopiasmall.jpg

This time it is for real, from the Bethesda Blog:

So we’ve let the journalists do the talking through their articles, but now we’d like to field some of your questions. That’s right, Todd and Co. are going to be willing to talk about more than Batman and their favorite color. If you’ve got something you’re dying to know about Fallout 3, take your suggestion to the forums here. If you want to send them directly to us via the blog, that’s fine too.

In addition to pulling together a list of questions that covers all the things people want to know about, we’ll keep an eye on other questions that get sent to us and pull in a developer every now and then to answer a few questions. You never know when a dev may stop by to answer a question or two from the mailbag, so send in your questions about Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Star Trek Conquest, or whatever it is you want to know and we’ll get to work.

Not more info for now, I’ll check a bit more on this.

Back to Fallout 3 part 1

Boy do I have some catching up to do! Let’s start with a roundup of the last days in the Fallout 3 world, starting on August 1st:

On that day Starpulse wrote about Fallout 3:

The game of the show, however, was Bethesda Softworks’ ”Fallout 3.” A role-playing game that takes place long after a nuclear holocaust, it’s the new project from the team that created ”The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.” By the time ”F3” is published in 2008, it will have been 10 years since the last ”Fallout” RPG, but this looks like it may have been worth the wait.

We met Christopher Krietz, Quality Assurance lead at Bethsoft with this post at the Bethesda Blog:

Have you played any of the Fallout games?

My introduction to the series started with Wasteland on the C64 — at the time I was fairly young and didn’t think much about it as I was playing a lot of the other great RPGs at the time too (Ultima 4-5, Bards Tale, Might and Magic 2, the SSI Gold Box D&D games), but I’ve since revisited it and have greatly enjoyed it. Admittedly, I’ve not spent as much time playing Fallout 1 and 2… I played quite a bit of 1 but never completed it, and never got ahold of 2. I think the whole world of the franchise is great. I find the setting fascinating.

At DuckandCover we found a new Fallout inspired comic strip series, from the creative work of Dogmeatlives. I’m already a fan, good luck to the author.

A couple of new Fallout 3 blogs showed up, with Fallouty choosing a sarcastic tone, and Fallout 3 News with a laudatory tone. Welcome guys.

The 2007 Game Critics Awards where Bethesda’s Fallout 3 was nominated for Best of the Show, Best RPG and Best PC Game were announced and… they didn’t get a single award. Next year with less competition things will be different, I suspect.

More late news to come, stay tuned.

Fallout 3 in Leipzig

utopiasmall.jpg

From Nimool:

This year Games Convention in Leipzig with probably more than 200,000 visitors, will be bigger than ever before. Also the number of companies and presentations will be more than last year.

“The GC is experiencing another growth spurt this year. Both the number of exhibiting companies and the individual presentation areas have clearly expanded over the last year.”

The Games Convention will be holding in Leipzig from August 23th to August 26th on a floor of more than 115,000 square meters.

I hope Bethesda Softworks gives some time to some of the many Fallout fansites gamers that will attend the convention, it could be an excellent PR stunt. Well, one can only wish, I guess.
