Canard PC Eight Pages Preview and Follow Up

French magazine CanardPC number 170 has an eight pages Fallout 3 preview that contains some interesting info, for a change, here on a summary by Mr.Bumble:

¤ Teen age gives you access to a few quests which will have an impact on how you are perceived within the Vault

¤ While travelling across the Wasteland, you can come across a few caravans, each heading to precise locations.

¤ There are three difficulty levels, as well as an “autolevelling difficulty” mode.

¤ A few new weapons : Cryolator allows you to freeze ennemies while you can hypnotize them with your Mesmetron.

¤ Also a new perk, Daddy’s Little Girl, which gives a Science bonus to female characters.

Later the author of the article went to the Canardplus forum and added his impressions about the music on the Fallout 3 demo, saying it’s “a f#&#=*&% catastrophe”, with all the “Call of Duty and Wagner” style music replacing Mark Morgan’s atmospheric tracks. He also says he is going to “piss on the composers mouth” after hearing that nonsense. Ouch.

Thank you Mr.Bumble at NMA.fr and NukaCola.

  1. I’m guessing these two comments from Meebo have something to do with this blog post:

it’s a sad, but predictable indictment on today’s internet culture when negativity is lauded and positivity is derided

true colors shining through — you stress the most negative thing you could find. how shocking.

  2. What? Those Meebo comments don’t make a whole lot of sense. The author himself stressed the point prominently in the forum post, and all this comes from Mr Bumble anyway.

  3. I’m not going to reply to those, just ask all the folks to read all the blogposts on the front page, judge for themselves, and treat the slight fever I’m having.

  4. I’m sorry Gimli but the antispam (Akysmet) is cutting all of your posts, no matter how many times I remove you from the spam lists. Annoying indeed. Again sorry, even if it’s not my fault.

  5. No problem as long as it’s not a problem for you. I switched to the Gmail address, perhaps that will help.

  6. see, you’re convinced all the music is terrible because that one guy didn’t like it, and you’re making sure everyone else knows it: http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?s=&showtopic=838296&view=findpost&p=12190814

    No I’m convinced of this:

Well at least if you know French you’ll assume that from now on. I’ll wait a bit until I listen to a few excerpts

But tend to believe the French reporter (that liked most of he saw, just not what he heard) when he claims most of the soundtrack will be orchestral and generic, since I’m pretty sure of who is doing it. A good composer, not a good Fallout game composer.

  7. I dont remember how good soundtrack Fallout Tactics had, but I don’t remember it being outright bad. That I surely would remember.

  8. “it’s a sad, but predictable indictment on today’s internet culture when negativity is lauded and positivity is derided”
Translate don’t hate our short sighted lower quality casual games, go with the flow don’t question there is no man behind the certain.

Look at the review industry and tell me “negativity is lauded”….
I see far more nonchalant “this is a mediocre game but I will give it a 8+” BS going on than taking the flaws and fun bits and giving a score, ranting or review thats conducive to the game they are reviewing…

“true colors shining through — you stress the most negative thing you could find. how shocking.”
the anti “X” hype on GTA 4 is a good example,or one picks the worst flaw and focuses on that over and over again.

I’ll give Fo3 the benefit of the doubt I gave it to Bioshock and it happily raped my hopes for it into the mud and grim I do expect a certain lack of quality in games but not to the level they show more and more now adays.

  9. He speaks of “internet culture”

Apparently the logic is that since opinions on the internet are mixed, while the media is unanimously positive and was so way before any details were revealed, that negativity must be insanity, while the media is obviously right.

Considering the enormous swing-and-misses the media has been piling atop one another the past decade, I’m not so sure that’s a valid viewpoint.

Consider this, anonymous Meebo guy, if all we get through the media is an endless stream of positivity, why wouldn’t a negative note simply be the most exceptional and thus most note-worthy bit to quote. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

I find sheeple do not like their world to be shaken, if you question or think out of lock step they will trample you, also theres a good bit of PR blunderbuss going around.

I swear sometimes it seems like sheeple do not want better products or rights they just want to be “intimate” (as in drop the saop) with the media industry….

  11. I finally poke my head out of GTA IV long enough to skim this site and I am greeted by this quote:

¤ A few new weapons : Cryolator allows you to freeze ennemies while you can hypnotize them with your Mesmetron.

uhh… hmm… is this their way of letting you get through the game without killing anyone? non-lethal weapons?

    how creative.

  12. killzig
the trouble is when they do PR speak you have to read between the lines, and that generally makes whatever they say sound worse than it is…sometimes…

whynto trout out the spiritual successor and be done with it 😛
