Bethesda Softworks Announces Award-Winning Actor
Liam Neeson to Play Lead Role in Fallout 3
May 8, 2007 (Rockville, MD) – Bethesda Softworks® is pleased to announce that highly acclaimed international actor Liam Neeson will lead the cast providing voice work in Fallout 3. Neeson will play the role of the player’s father and will appear prominently throughout the game. Fallout 3 is currently under development at Bethesda Game Studios, creators of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion®, which won numerous Game of the Year and RPG of the Year awards in 2006.
“This role was written with Liam in mind, and provides the dramatic tone for the entire game,” said Todd Howard, Executive Producer of Fallout 3. “Liam is absolutely amazing to work with.”
Neeson is known for starring roles in blockbuster films such as Schindler’s List, Star Wars: Episode I, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Batman Begins. Throughout his illustrious career, Neeson has been the recipient of numerous honors for his work in film and theater, including Academy Award, Golden Globe and Tony Award nominations.
“It’s been a pleasure bringing the father to life and working with the wonderfully talented people at Bethesda on Fallout 3,” said Neeson. “I hope the fans of the franchise and the game will be excited by the results.”
I hope so too.

See? What did I told you? No character should “appear prominently throughout” a Fallout game because that concept is not Fallout! I hope I can kill that character right off from start!
- 1 point in my consideration…
If you’ll remember, they said pretty much the same thing about Patrick Stewart bringing the Emperor to life in Oblivion. Patrick Stewart was in Oblivion all of 20 minutes.
Well, keep in mind it’s entirely possible that “appearing prominently throughout” could mean he’s a recurring character that drives a larger plot, like the overseer in Fallout 1. Or how you meet the big guy from the Enclave in Fallout 2 long before you fight him. Or it could be like a Final Fantasy Legend II type thing where your father says good-bye, heads out into the wastes, and your first big quest is to go find him years later.
I’m optimistic. Liam Neeson is a solid actor, and there’s a lot of potential there. I just hope they don’t try to go the Oblivion route and make everyone a talking head.
Also, East Coast Fallout? Awesome. I hope we can explore the whole U.S.A. Hell, what if we got expansions that extended into Canada and Mexico? You know there’s going to be a fan toolset too (it’s a Bethesda game). I can’t wait to see what the Fallout modding community does.
Optimistic? Ok… Just don’t kill yourself when the game comes out, please.
Liam has an awesome voice. I didn’t know of him but I bothered to search for something from him, and I like his voice…
..which doesn’t mean there will be 500 like him… THAT’s what fallout needs, not six voices for 1500 NPC’s.
